We worked with the Triangle Conservancy (Save the Triangle) for nearly four years to make this a reality.
Certain politicians and developers were looking to renege on the City of Fairhope's original promise to preserve as "parkland" the vestiges of a longleaf pine savanna known as "the Triangle" and developing at least part of it.
Through an information campaign and governmental relations, the Conservancy was able to garner the necessary public support to convince the City to keep its promise, thus fulfilling the first two of the Conservancy's goals: to preserve and protect the Triangle.
With Phase I construction slated to begin within the next few months, the third goal of enhancing the Triangle will also be met. ... See MoreSee Less

More positive press about Airbus's #WeWILLBuildItBetter career tech program for elementary schools in today's edition of The Lede:
Airbus is offering a new career tech program to Mobile-area elementary schools
by Jamarean Heard
Airbus and Flight Works Alabama have teamed up to create a new career-tech program, which is entering some Alabama elementary schools this fall.
The "We WILL Build It Better" curriculum, created by educators and industry professionals, immerses students in a STEAM setting.
Elementary schools in Alabama's Mobile, Baldwin, and Cullman counties will be among the first to implement the brand-new STEAM-based career-tech program.
The curriculum builds upon an existing middle school program, which also launched in Mobile and Baldwin counties in 2021.
It is currently available to over 40,000 students in 16 states across the United States and the United Kingdom, according to a news release.
We WILL Build It Better was [developed] for elementary school children by Flight Works Alabama, Airbus, Amazon Web Services, Snap-on Tools and the Thompson Engineering Foundation.
"We have learned from We Build It Better being implemented in middle school classrooms that this program is having positive impacts on absenteeism, conflict management and resolution, and higher test scores in other courses--specifically math," said Michelle Hurdle, president of Flight Works Alabama. "It is the social impacts and soft-skill developments in these students' lives that we are most excited about for our future workforce."
Robert E. Lee Elementary School, Saraland Elementary School, Chickasaw Elementary School, Eichold Mertz Magnet School, Robertsdale Elementary School, Orange Beach Elementary School, and Gulf Shores Elementary School are among the Mobile and Baldwin County schools that are using the program.
Even though the program is only now getting started in October 2023, by the end of this year it should be implemented in 77 schools spread over more than seven states in the US and the UK, according to a news release.
"We WILL Build It Better launches career tech into elementary-aged students. They are able to experience what many students don't get to experience until the middle school or high school levels. It gives them insight into what career tech is," Said Sara LeCroy, curriculum writer for We WILL Build It Better.

Congratulations to Airbus on breaking ground for its third assembly line in Mobile!
Airbus celebrates groundbreaking of third final assembly line
by Brady Petree
Mobile will soon reap the benefits of Airbus expanding its local manufacturing center to make it the company’s third-largest commercial airline-producing site.
Celebrating the ongoing construction of its second final assembly line for the A320 model, Airbus leaders and state and local officials gathered at the future site of the Airbus welcome center on Wednesday afternoon to commemorate the expansion projected to bring 1,000 jobs to the Mobile area.
The 350,000-square-foot facility is set to open in mid-2025 and will increase the total number employed by Airbus to around 2,800 upon completion. It’s the third final assembly line on site, joining another A320 line and one for the smaller A220 model.
With construction of the facility going on in the background, Gov. Kay Ivey praised both Airbus and local officials and the partnership that’s grown between the two since the company first broke ground on its first facility in 2012. She said the relationship is a “shining example” of how things can work out when multiple entities are on the same page.
“The scope of this project is nothing short of remarkable,” Ivey said. “It signifies our commitment to growth and the strength of the partnership between the city of Mobile, Mobile County and the state of Alabama.”
Ivey spoke to the increasing number of jobs brought to Mobile by Airbus, which has seen its workforce grow from a couple hundred positions, to almost 1,800 employees today.
“Our labor force is the backbone of our state’s success,” Ivey said. “It’s their commitment and their relentless pursuit of excellence that has brought us to this remarkable point.”
Part of the reason Airbus was able to move forward with the A320 assembly line was because of a $10-million grant issued by the Mobile County Commission. The proposal initially was criticized by District 3 Commissioner Randall Dueitt, who cited concerns over the number of new employees that would actually be living within the county. Dueitt claimed 40 percent of Airbus’ workforce consisted of those living outside Mobile County.
The deal ultimately went through, with Dueitt’s concerns apparently being addressed by Airbus officials. On Wednesday, Dueitt said a program had been worked out between Airbus and the Mobile Chamber to where Airbus will incentivize people relocating from other communities to Mobile.
“It’s always been important to me to make sure that when you’re giving an economic incentive to an industry that’s coming here to make sure that you’re getting something out of that deal,” Duiett said. “Your taxpayers are paying that out of their tax dollars and I want to make sure those jobs are coming to the people who live in the community and pay taxes here.”
While expansion of the facility was announced in May 2022, Airbus Senior Vice President of U.S. Commercial Operations Daryl Taylor said the company felt as though the time was right to celebrate the occasion.
While he’s unsure if there will be more expansion projects on the horizon for Airbus, Taylor said there’s a possibility for growth in one area. In the event the company’s proposed partnership with Lockheed Martin to construct LMXT strategic tankers goes through, Taylor said the company would certainly take a look at adding on to the Mobile site.
“We’ve executed and we’ve been a key pillar for Airbus’ growth,” Taylor said. “If we continue to do that, we’ll see what happens. We’re obviously very keen on taking opportunities to build the LMXT here in Mobile. Assuming that becomes an opportunity, that would be the next expansion we would see.”
Based on figures released by the company in September 2023, Airbus currently has a backlog of around 6,700 aircraft, with 60 percent of those being of the A320neo model. Once the facility is completed, the production goal for Airbus for its first full year of operation in 2026 will be around 75 aircraft per month.
Taylor said the addition of another assembly line will help the backlog dwindle down as the years go by.
“We’re really fortunate in Mobile that we build two amazing products for Airbus, the A320 and the A220 which is the final assembly line we added five years ago,” Taylor said. “When you look at the growth and the 6,000 aircraft backlog on the A320 family, as a commitment as a company, we announced to build 75 aircraft a month across our network and the only way we get to that is by adding this expansion.”
