Located on the Gulf of Mexico, Black Flag Communications works with companies headquartered across the globe. We provide public relations counsel to some of the largest multinational companies in the world with a special emphasis on the maritime, logistics, and energy sectors, including day-to-day PR, community outreach and more. Our crisis communications experience includes incidents of piracy and hijacking, aviation crashes, environmental leaks and spills, and cases of embezzlement and fraud.
Additionally, we have worked with numerous law firms, providing messaging, strategic input, witness preparation and more.
Scott Rye, Director
A decorated naval officer, Scott led the Media Operations Center for Multi-National Force—Iraq and served as a Coalition spokesman. In 2015, he was Director of Public Affairs for Combined Joint Interagency Task Force—Syria, a Special Operations counter-ISIS task force. As the senior military Public Affairs Officer on the African continent, he led the Public Affairs directorate at Combined Joint Task Force—Horn of Africa and Joint Special Operations Task Force—Somalia in 2019-2020. During his naval career, Scott held four command tours and was Chief of Staff for the Navy’s Vice Chief of Information, holding Top Secret/SCI and NATO Secret clearances.
In his civilian career, Scott worked for several advertising and public relations firms in positions of increasing authority before launching Black Flag Communications in December 2012. He is a former correspondent for Daily Shipping Guide, the former editor of Alabama Seaport magazine, and the author of two non-fiction books.
Scott read History and English at St. John’s College, Oxford, is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Rhodes College (B.A. English) and holds a master’s degree in History and Politics from Rutgers University. He was the honor graduate of the Defense Information School’s Joint Senior Public Affairs Course.
